Germany head coach Hansi Flick has verified that Chelsea star Kai Havertz will fly to Iceland with the rest of the squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifying match.
Timo Werner got on the scoresheet again and Antonio Rudiger helped Germany keep another clean sheet in the 6-0 victory over Armenia on Sunday.
Sadly, Havertz, who has a “mild flu-like” infection, did not make the squad.
Germany will still have to play one more World Cup qualification match against Iceland on Wednesday before the players can head back to their respective clubs.
Flick has now announced that Havertz will be with the squad, despite having to train separately from the group due to the infection.
“We’ll take all players with us,” he told the reporters (via DBF’s official website) when asked about his plans for Havertz and Robin Gosens, who is still recovering from a foot injury.
“Kai has trained before, not on the pitch, but on a bike.”
The German FA would have likely released a statement by now if it was a Covid-19 case, so Havertz is likely not going to have to undergo another quarantine period once he is back in London.
Still, it remains unclear whether the talented 22-year-old will be fit to play against Aston Villa this weekend.
