Today is the 1st day of December,2020, and the day for special voting in Ghana’s General Elections (2020). Cleanfm.org has decided to visit one of the constituencies in the Greater Accra Region – SHAI-OSUDOKU CONSTITUENCY.

Shai- Osudoku (formerly Dangme West) is one of the many constituencies in the Greater Accra Region. The administrative Capital is Dodowa. The constituency has current voter population of 64,693 (sixty-four thousand, six hundred and ninety-three) voters, making it the 97th highest among the 275 constituencies in the country. It includes some towns and villages like Dodowa, Asutsuare, Agomeda, Osuwem, Ayikuma, Doryumu among others.

POLITICS When it comes to politics, Shai-Osudoku has been one of the strongholds of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) since it’s creation with the results below:

SHAI-OSUDOKU CONSTITUENCY has over the years produced Members of Parliament like Michael Afedi Gizo, David Tetteh Assumeng and the incumbent-Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo all from the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Do you think the NDC will still win the 2020 elections in Shai-Osudoku? let us now look at the two major candidates contesting the parliamentary seat in this constituency. (NDC & NPP)

Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo

Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo was born on February 21st,1979, she comes from Ayinaa Abasa(Greater Accra) she has Diploma in Insurance, National Insurance Collage, Airport – Accra 2004; Diploma in Banking, Cambridge Academy, Accra, 2000; BA (Business Administration), UCC, making her Economist/Banker/Insurer. she was employed as Client Service Consultant, Old Mutual Life Assurance (Formerly Provident Insurance), Accra. Linda is a Christian. She is a widow with 5 children.

Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo is the incumbent MP for Shai-Osudoku Constituency. Her political carrier began following the passing on of her husband- Mr William Ocloo,, who was then the aspirant for the NDC, died in a road accident in May 2016. He was said to have died on the spot in the crash which occurred at Juaso in the Asante Akyem South District of the Ashanti Region. Mrs. Ocloo had no choice than to step into the shoes of her deceased husband.

On December 7, 2016, Mrs. Ocloo won the seatt after polling total vote of  20,114, representing 67.07% of the total votes cast, which many believed was out of sympathy, making her the first female to represent Shai-Osudoku in parliament between 2016 and 2020.

in 2019, she won the NDC primaries against her opponent, Dr. Kpessa White to again contest for the seat for the NDC for another four years.

We are now in the year 2020, After four years of representing the constituency, do you think the people of Shai-Osudoku will vote for Linda again “out of sympathy” or with regards to developmental works she has done in the constituency?

BENJAMIN NARGEH

BENJAMIN NARGEH is the Parliamentary Candidate for the ruling, New Patriotic Party (NPP). he comes from Dodowa, he holds a Masters Degree in Governance and Leadership from Graduate School of Governance and Leadership. he is the Chairman and Founder of Royal Football Club and Soccer Academy and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) And Owner of Royal Benac Company Limited. he is married.

Popularly known as Nargeh, he is believed to be the saviour of the NPP in Shai-Osudoku after several attempt to turn the tide, The NPP had made several attempts to overthrow the NDC but to no avail. Supporters of the NPP are hoping to see Nargeh rescue the NPP by the end of the December 7 polls.

Can Benjamin Nargeh rescue the NPP or Linda Ocloo will retain the seat for the Democrats?

As all political parties are doing all they can to win this year’s election, we at cleanfm.org also pray for PEACE, before, during and after the elections.
